Leon Trotsky House Museum in Mexico City
The Leon Trotsky House Museum is located in Mexico City, and in the Town of Coyoacan. The
museum was built next to the house where Leon Trotsky lived from 1939 to 1940. He was
murdered in this house. The house’s contents –furniture and personal objects– have been kept
almost in the same condition as when Trostky lived there, including his the study room where
Ramon Mercader –a Joseph Stalin supporter– killed him by hitting him on the back of his head with
an ice axe. The house is surrounded by a garden. In 1990 the museum was built to mark the 50th
anniversary of Trotsky’s assassination.
